Summary/Abstract: Since its inception Bulgarian health insurance has been influenced by the positive example of the efficiency and effectiveness of the German health insurance. A series of reforms to Bulgarian health care have been implemented and the most significant has been the eplacement of the national health system with a two-pillar health insurance system. However, the contemporary development of health insurance in Bulgaria shows that there are still more opportunities of using the experience of already well established health care systems, providing high quality health services, such as that in the FRG.
