Summary/Abstract: „C. Sandu Aldea” Foundation was created at a time when Romania was in the midst of an economic crisis, which affected almost the whole world, the Great Depression. It has affected the East European Countries also because the economy was already shaken by the Great War. In these difficult times, there were initiatives aimed to help the young generation to have the financial and intellectual resources to build a career. One innovative idea was the reimbursable scholarships. This concept was implemented in a world heavily affected by the Great Depression and the aftermath of the First World War where it was necessary to have a younger generation to have the possibility to study, and after that to build a career and give back to the society by contributing for the generations to come. Another interesting idea is the the financial resource of the foundation, because the founding members would contribute with the equivalent of their scholarships received during their studies. And Constantin Sandu Aldea was one of the personalities from Brăila, that inspired the foundation, him being one of the students that had scholarships and struggled in his youth years. The initiative for the foundation belongs to Brăila personalities that represents the social category that desired to create the medium for the next generations, the liberal professions, as the lawyers, the professors, a priest, the manager of the National Bank branch and the important families or personalities of Brăila, such as Nicolae Eremie, that offered the family house for the foundation. Therefore, in the difficult times of 1933, when the world struggled to build after the Great War, there were small, but relevant initiatives that helped the younger generations and, at the same time they empowered them to build a career and help the other generations to come.
