Prohibition to lay off pregnant women

Summary/Abstract: Protection of women in relation to pregnancy and maternity is regulated in several legal documents, adopted both at international, regional and domestic level. The aim of this article is to offer a brief overview regarding the scope of pregnant women protection, with particular emphasis on the prohibition of dismissal of pregnant workers. We argue that legal provisions contained in domestic law should be interpreted in the sense that the prohibition of dismissal of pregnant workers should not apply in cases not connected with their condition.
