Summary/Abstract: During the musical stylistic periods, the evolution and construction of new instruments, as well as the orchestral and musical language, have led to the emergence of new genres and instrumental forms. If the 16th century was dominated by vocal music accompanied by an instrument, the seventeenth century provided an important role for instrumental music, generating the appearance of the instrumental suite. The 18th century corresponds to the period when the tonal system has been defined, crystalizing the most important musical form during Classicism – the Sonata. Romanticism in music was a new wave that appeared around the composers-players, famous virtuosos such as Liszt and Paganini. The Neoclassical age is outlined by the works of Hindemith- Germany, S. Prokofiev-Russia, I. Stravinski-Russia, and the instrumental creation of the 20th century is enriched by Musical nationalism composers such as Bartok or Enescu. After the Second World War, O. Messiaen, K. Stockhausen, P. Boulez, L. Nono have been remarked. If the Baroque orchestra has been dominated by string instruments (violin, viola, cello), winds and brass (flute, oboe, trumpet) followed by organ and harpsichord, the construction of new instruments and improvement of the existing ones, as well as the perfect tuning of strings, will contribute in the first half of the 18th century to the development and amplification of the orchestra. The 20th century composers and the contemporary ones, whether impressionist or expressionist, or modern musicians, gave a very important role to the orchestra and to the instruments in rendering the messages of their own creations. The strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments are being improved which automatically leads to new instrumental and orchestral techniques, to the evolution of new musical expression ways and to the development of contemporary orchestral language.
