Summary/Abstract: Ensuring high quality education is a key objective of national and European policies. Achieving quality is associated with effective management of the educational process, resources and environment. Management in modern institutions is a collaborative and public activity involving all participants in the educational process. Effective management requires specific competencies that must be possessed by both the heads of the kindergartens and the other pedagogical specialists. In the context of knowledge and management skills, the article presents a survey of principals and kindergarten teachers who assess the importance of competencies for successful management. The results show a coincidence of the opinions of the respondents, which is an indicator of understanding the characteristics of the management process. The analysis of the data leads to the conclusion that the significant competencies are in line with the democratic values and the principles of autonomy. They also include a number of personal skills that support the implementation of good and transparent governance policies.
