Summary/Abstract: The text reviews three Bulgarian translations of Karel Hynek Mácha’s poem Máj (May). It offers a critical textual analysis of the newer two translations – those of Zhorzheta Tcholakova and Atanas Zvezdinov. The comparison refers to the classical discourse whether poetry – and especially older time’s poetry – should be translated by a poet or by a literary theorist who is aware of the historical and literary context of the word’s inception.
