The French Translation of a Video on the Dożynki/Harvest Festival, and the Issue of Subtitling and Cultural Mediation – Some Theoretical and Practical Aspects

Summary/Abstract: This article addresses some issues related to audiovisual translation from Polish into French as a part of language exercises at university. The aim of the work is to sensitise students to various aspects of translation, taking into account the specificity of audiovisual translation, especially film subtitles, as well as their technical adaptation to the screen. These exercises allowed for the improvement of students' competences in the field of translation techniques and cultural transfer, as well as intercultural communication and mediation. It can be said that audiovisual translation is a kind of manipulation of the source text, while simultaneously taking into account technical limitations.
