French Artisanal Handicraft – Craft Names and Their Polish Equivalents

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the presentation, classification and translation of names of crafts in general, and particularly the field of fashion and accessories. It should be emphasized that the know-how related to the artisanal handicraft in France has always been appreciated and recognized worldwide. The difficulty of translating terms in a specialized field such as the names of crafts results from the fact that some of them are kept alive in a given culture while they are classified as forgotten or old ones in another culture. Finding suitable equivalents sometimes requires a diachronic study based on historical and cultural knowledge.
