Factors influencing the Simplicity of Organizational Structure

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of empirical studies on the simplicity of the organizational structure. The hypotheses about factors influencing the simplicity of the organizational structure were tested. The following factors were investigated: environment uncertainty, dependence on the environment, business diversification, organizational culture, the professionalism of employees, leadership, the determination of managers in reducing the organizational complexity, technology, information technology, organizational history and size. The research was conducted in 100 enterprises operating in Poland. Statistical tools were used to analyse collected empirical data, among others: the correlation analysis and the regression models. The results indicate that there are significant factors influencing simplicity of organizational structure: organizational size, business diversification, technology, environment uncertainty and determination of managers in reducing organizational complexity.
