Summary/Abstract: Russia has been striving for a long to transform the post-Cold War world order based on the dominant position of the United States into a system with many mutually balancing poles. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 is part of this process. It will have far-reaching effects not only on relations between Moscow and Kyiv but also on a regional and global scale. The article aims to analyze the most important factors affecting Russia’s international position, directly and indirectly, in the context of the war in Ukraine. The author reviews them both regionally (Russia’s position in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the importance of Belarus) and globally (relations with the collective West, China, and countries of the Global South).
