Strategies for the development of local government units in the context of provided services

Summary/Abstract: One of the primary aims of local government units, in addition to their investment, administrative, organizational and lawmaking projects, is the provision of services to the local community. The quality of these services is related, among others, to the degree of implementation of the development strategy in these organizations as well as the coherence of these strategies’ assumptions. In most local government units there is a discrepancy between what is written in the strategy and how it is converted into reality, which may affect the quality of the processes occurring in the unit. The purpose of this article is to present the results of qualitative interviews conducted in municipality offices and district offices with people in managerial positions. These studies are focused on the issues of elements of sustainable development in local government units’ development strategies.
