Summary/Abstract: This article presents a Romanian officer's detailed memoir of his captivity in Austria-Hungary and Germany. Reserve Lieutenant Toma Ioniță, from the 18th Gorj Regiment, was taken prisoner during the offensive carried out by the armies of the Central Powers in Romania at the end of 1916. He then knew the bitter fate of the Romanian prisoners, enduring all kinds of privations and humiliations. The document illustrates as well as possible what life was like for a Romanian prisoner of war during the First World War.
