Summary/Abstract: Issues related to the use of iconic material in Polish language education, referring to the issues of intersemiotic relations of word and image and resulting from the tasks carried outby the student in the course of Polish language lessons, have been the subject of discussions among educators for many years. Taking the part in the discussion about cultural educationin the current school, it is worth recalling the examples of the presence of different types of relationships in which verbal and iconic texts are included, and propose tasks using theexamples of word-image dependencies already present in the textbooks. In the proposed article, we discuss the material taken directly from school textbooks operating on the “schoolmarket”, we propose new practices for reading text and image, and specific tasks to read, we introduce commands and instructions to perform actions based on the literary and iconic materialincluded in the textbooks. It seems that the material awarded can be successfully used in Polish language teaching also in school in its present, reformed shape.
