Some Aspects of the Development of Library Staff in the Context of the Changes in Libraries and the Library Profession over the Last Few Decades

Summary/Abstract: This study discusses some aspects of the professional training of modern library specialists and of the definition of the library profession today. It examines both foreign and Bulgarian sources presenting the experience of libraries in different countries across the world with respect to providing their staff with the necessary knowledge and skills in the context of the information society. The study reports on part of the results of a survey across Bulgarian libraries, which concerns the problems encountered in the training of staff members. It also notes the role of continuous professional training for the development of modern competences and for the programmes for staff development.
