Summary/Abstract: Literary plots are based on encounters and various locations that favour criss-crossings. Train coaches, liners, hotels are such places. The hotel represents a metaphor for many things: from estrangement to our ephemeral existence on earth. For a writer, a hotel becomes a personal emblem. Along with a short history of the word “hotel”, the author enumerates works related to hotels either imaginary of real, and artists whose destinies were linked in a way or another to hotels.
