Summary/Abstract: Dedicated to a topic of interest for national church history, the current study brought up to date information about the life and activity of the Monk Philotheos, a discreet, but extremely active scholarly personality. Greek by origin, remarkable politician of Romanian society and, finally, a monk of the Cozia Monastery, this intellectual, who lived between the 14th and 15th centuries, significantly contributed to the development of the liturgical formula of the Church of the East, composing the so-called ՙpripeale՚, hymnographic creations used in worship to this day. The history of the appearance and evolution of these creations was the subject of studies signed by great personalities from the Romanian academic environment, such as metropolitans Tit Simedrea and Nestor Vornicescu or ethnomusicologist Gheorghe Ciobanu, but the studies in question were published in the Church’s periodicals of the dioceses in the south of the country (The Romanian Orthodox Church, Metropolis of Oltenia) and access to these sources is not exactly easy for those from northern Romania. In consequence, I considered necessary this research approach and, above all, its publication in the pages of the Candela magazine, so that the treated subject can be also accessible to the spiritual sons of the Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți, whether they are clerics or laymen.
