Summary/Abstract: As the most popular of all sports, football is one of the social phenomena of 20th century. For that reason during the socialist era Bulgarian communist party (ВСР) wants to control The Beautiful Game on the same way as every aspect of the society. Unlike athletes in individual sports (wrestling, boxing, weighlifting), footballers cannot win Olympic, World and European titles and don't fit in the system for propaganda of Bulgarian sports achievements (respectively achievements of the regime). However, football was the most supported sport in Socialist Bulgaria and priority of every sports organization which doesn't coпespond with its success. That's why the most important interventions of ВСР in the football (1970 after the fail in FIFA World Cup on the same year and 1985 after the scandal during Bulgarian Cup final between "Levski" and "СSКА") were related to sanctions, which didn't lead to positive changes and stopped the development of this sport.
