Summary/Abstract: Awards and selections from film festivals are of great importance to both films and their authors. For documentary cinema, this significance is in all likelihood even greater, since documentary viewers are by presumption and in practice less tempted and therefore fewer in number. However, the festivals impose their normativity, and authors often comply with it. The text mainly deals with the question, is it possible to overcome festival normativity? As a successful example of this, the film “No Place for You in Our Town” (2022), directed by Nikolay Stefanov, is examined.
