Summary/Abstract: The present report aims to investigate body image perceptions in girls diagnosed with anorexia. The sample consisted of N=28 girls aged 11-17 years diagnosed with anorexia in a clinical setting. The research method was a Vygotsky free association experiment and self-drawing conducted during the initial psychodynamic interview. The results show that despite the different psychodynamics of the inner conflicts, there are common elements in the drawings of the self: in 75% of the drawings, the body is absent and the entire sheet is occupied by a head. In the remaining 25%, the body is present, but it is devoid of feminine elements and static. In 80% of the drawings, the emphasis is on feminine, doll-like elements in the eyes and lips, which are drawn in a way that indicates a lower affective than chronological age. The results of the free associative experiment show a tendency to use more nouns (predominant in younger children) than adjectives and verbs - that is, a preponderance of the rational over the emotional and practical. The main conclusions of the study indicate that girls diagnosed with anorexia have a contradictory image of their own body, in drawings and in associations their responses approach those registered in younger children; there is a discrepancy between affective, social and intellectual functioning with a preponderance of the latter.
