Summary/Abstract: This year marks 80 years since the dramatic battles fought by the Romanian army on the national territory between April and August 1944. At the time of Romania’s transfer to the Allies, on August 23, 1944, the German-Romanian-Soviet front was on the route north Târgu Neamț, north-east Roman, north Bârlad, northwest Huși and north Chişinău. Within this strategic defensive device adopted by the Romanian army, the cities of Roman and Bacău were in the area of concentration of the large Romanian-German units under the strong pressure of the Soviet troops.
