Local energy policy for the sustainable development of the silesian communities

Summary/Abstract: Silesian Voivodeship is an area with a long tradition of the coal use as the main fuel. At the same time numerous environmental hazards accumulate in the voivodeship. Currently, the activities which promote a sustainable energy and increased use of alternative to coal energy sources are a new trend in development. The voivodeship has the potential in the area of development of renewable energy sources and improvement of energy efficiency. Actions taken by local authorities, which are still not fully convinced about the benefits of the development and implementation of sustainable development in the energy sector, are necessary to fully use this potential.
