Competitiveness of cooperative banks as local community partners

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to assess the competitiveness of the Polish cooperative banks according to the indices that characterize the efficiency of these banks’ operations. The analysis of basic financial ratios was the method of research. The most recent available financial data of Polish cooperative banks, published by the Financial Supervision Authority, constituted the empirical data base necessary for the analysis. Their evaluation does not entitle to a positive assessment of the competitiveness of the cooperative banks as partners of local institutions, businesses and individuals. However, it points out the need for the reflection on the business model of these banks.
