Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at highlighting the processes of knowledge exchange between sociology and demography in a situation of rising integration of the scientific knowledge. The potential of the interdisciplinary recognition between sociology and population studies are discussed with respect to the knowledge transfers between both disciplines. The opening of population science to the analytical achievements of sociology in order to deepen the explanations of the demographic processes, brings forward the issues of reflexivity and criticality in the usage of the transferred concepts. The adopting of the sociological theories in demographic environment, their meaningful enhancement or misapplication are discussed with reference to the dominating approaches in demography. Additionally, special attentions is devoted to the enrichment of sociological knowledge through testing the explanatory power of its concepts in demographic settings. The authors share some insights about the risks involved in the multidisciplinary polyphony that both disciplines are joining.
