Summary/Abstract: Câmpulung town was more and more frequently visited as a resort from the first half of the nineteenth century. In the first part of the twentieth century, an urban space from downtown became a special centre for leisure activities, where privileged social contacts were established between tourists and members of local communities (urban dwellers, but also inhabitants from the whole Muscel county). This area consisted of an alley-promenade called Boulevard by locals and nicknamed “Pardon” Boulevard by Bucharest inhabitants and a park, Public Garden, nicknamed “Merci”. Old historical monographs of the time tried to set the chronological markers of their establishment and first renovations that must be more clearly stated by corroborating information gathered from memoirs, documents issued by the town administration, from old photographs and postcards from the early twentieth century. Certain memoirs, as well as the press from that period, offer information of special interest about daily life unfolded in the space specially arranged by inhabitants (as background) through a long selection process to support activities that were taking place in the area: charities, shows, curing walks recommended by doctors, business transactions, politics, romantic dates. This area consisted of benches, a gazebo where the army’s band played daily, flower beds, street lamps, a public barometer that showed visitors what the weather might be like, statues. Daily life can also be rebuilt by researching the specific of the services and trading they had in that area: cinemas, banks, restaurants, cafes, pubs, spaces for sports (tennis, bowling) and so on.
