Summary/Abstract: Flămânda is a hill that borders in length the town of Câmpulung Muscel, parallel to the meadow of the river Râul Târgului, on his left bank. In ancient times, this bank was outside the inhabited area. In modern times, however, Flămânda has become a special and much frequented place thanks to it’s: – Soil and sunlight conditions favorable to engaging in fruit growing and gardening, – Mărculeşti-Flămânda Hermitage (1765), now replaced by the Flămânda Church (1940), called „The Bride Church”, – Flămânda cemetery, the main cemetery of the town, founded between 1860 and 1883, – Spectacular views over the city, the nearby hills and mountains in the distance, which turned Flămânda into a real leisure space, also appreciated by the first king of Romania, Carol I, who wished to build a summer residence there, but the land purchase was, however, refused by the townsfolk community, – „Carol I” Normal School for teachers, whose headquarter, with a spectacular architecture specific for those times in Romania, was inaugurated in 1896. It can be added the importance, for the modern age townspeople in Câmpulung, of the plateau from the Soud-Western part of the hill, near the „Carol I” Normal School for Teachers and not far away from the Negru Vodă Monastery. It is the place where the Saint Ilie annual Fair took place for almost half of century (about 1923-1970), and the place where the town’s stadium has been located since 1945. From this plateau also started the road linking Câmpulung to the town of Târgovişte and to several others surrounding villages, road from which falls off the very short road to the cemetery, continuing to the former hermitage and to other nearby villages, some of them being temporarily Câmpulung suburbs. Currently, building houses along the roads in the area led to making it one of the eight districts of the town of Câmpulung, neighborhood “Flămânda”.
