Prospects for international climate change negotiations after COP17 in Durban.

Summary/Abstract: The author presents the origins and evolution of the negotiation process within the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. An overview of greenhouse gas emission trends and future emission projections serves as a background for analysis of the main international agreements: UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol. Particular attention is paid to the outcomes of the 2009 COP15 in Copenhagen and to the most recent climate conference in Durban which initiated a new phase of climate talks aiming at the new treaty binding both developed and developing nations.
