Summary/Abstract: The article introduces the Carpathian convention, i.e. an international agreement adopted by seven parties (Poland and other Central and Eastern European countries) to guarantee protection and sustainable development of the Carpathians. The author discusses natural values and cultural heritage of Carpathian region, origins, rationale and aims of the convention, prospects for and threats to its implementation.
