Summary/Abstract: Albanian patronymic system, during some centuries of its formation and consolidation, centuries that coincide with ottoman dominion of the country, does bear many traces from that dominion. Anthroponymy and patronymy are the two branches of onomastics most influenced by turkish language. The type of patronyms with the origin from the names of professions, titles and grades, together with the patronyms from sobriquets are the two categories most linked to appellatives, because those have served as epithetic denominations. The nomenclature of professions names of turkish source has covered a page of the history of the economic development of medieval Albania. From the linguistic point of view this type of patronyms in Albanian is various, but anyway dominated by non albanian oriental material. Albanian has adjusted later the type of nomina agentis with its material, but the patronymic patrimony comes from an earlier time. However we don’t have in Albanian an universal model, like that of germanic languages, that unite very easily two themas for creating compound words-denominations like Kaufman, Goldman, Silberman, Goldschmidt, Schulmeister etc.. This function in Albanian has taken turkish suffix –xhi, that is tied with non-turkish themas too: -Arkaxhiu, -Mishaxhiu, -Furrxhiu etc.; but in modern Albanian is successfully avoided and is left in the low register (taksixhi etc.). In modern Albanian the names of professions are others, but those are not reflected in the patronymy. In this group of denominations it rests to get clear the motive and the history of their transformation into patronyms, a very difficult thing because of metaphors and metonymies, but we are treating them as indirect denomination on the border of sobriquets.
