PATRONYMS FROM NICKNAMES

Summary/Abstract: The category of patronyms from nicknames in made a subject of a detailed investigation, starting from its denomination, where a terminological difference is done between patronym and nickname, this last being understood strictly as a nickname (he has’nt it a very patronym, but it is remained to him as a nickname). The necessary attention is paid to the functioning of this type of patronyms, the goal being to do the difference from three other types. Preliminnary examination of the data made it apparent that analysis would be done by the onomasiological method, that is by seeng them as a result of denominating necessities. From this point of view the patronyms-nicknames are broken down into two groups: nicknames marking (signifying) physic characteristics of the man and marking moral ones. The type of patronyms-nicknames results to be very rich in the patronymicon of the albanians and an endless possibility for using appellative lexicon with negative emotional nuance, as a more apparent mark. The author has drown attention of the scholars to the considerable place occupied in this type of patronyms by the lexicon of Albanian loaned from Turkish, which is characterized as a stratum with negative charge.
