Summary/Abstract: “Addiction” to work, or workaholism, is defined as a predominant feature in personality penetrating all the aspects of one’s live. A workaholic is a person whose interests and hobbies, and often also their social life and partnerships, become destroyed by work; work becomes the most common thought and topic of conversation. Technophilia is mostly referred to as a strong enthusiasm for new technologies, including IT, the internet, and mobile phones. The present paper addresses the issue of workaholism, its relationship with technophilia, and their coincidence. Presenting a perspective based on the definition of addiction (ICD-10), the authors offer an alternative view of a work-oriented lifestyle using modern technologies as a working instrument. The authors also introduce results of a research into technophilia among students at the Faculty of Arts, Palacky University in Olomouc.
