Summary/Abstract: The material is examined of three indices of book forbidden by the Church; these boooks were circulating in the Romanian Principalities in the 17th century: (1) Indicele din Cazania de la Voievozi (Indice of the Homilies from Voievozi), copied at the beginning of the 17th century in the Serbian Belgrad bz the priest Vassily from Moldova; (2) Indicele din Nomocanonul slavon (Indice of the Slavic Laws) found at the Bistritza Monastery in 1651 and (3) Indicele din Kirillovka Kniga (Index of Czril’s Book), translated at Târgovişte bz Staicu Grămăticul between 1667-1669. Among the forbidden books included in these indices (all the books originate in Russia) only a few circulated in the Romanian space; two of these books (as related to the index in the Book of Homilies and 13 as related to the two indices in Wallacha). The presence of these indices could not put a stop to the activity of translating and copying the apocryph religions books, attested especially in Transylvania. We have no information as regards the fact that the Orthodox Church in the Romanian Principalites did impose any censorship on the religious apocryphs and on the fortelling books.
