Summary/Abstract: Unlike the earlier interpretations which overlooked or negatively assessed Janko Polić Kamov’s short story Catastrophe, this is an attempt to »rehabilitate« this work, presenting the story in the light of Kamov’s (proto)avantgardism. The paper shows how Kamov’s narrator insistently directs the reader’s attention from the story to the narrating procedure. In this way mimetism is replaced by autoreferenciality and synthetism.
