Summary/Abstract: On 13 April 1862 Romania enacted the first law which regulated the copyrights in literary and artistic works. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the enactment of this normative act, the authors present a brief retrospective of the regulations in the matter, starting with the period of the first writings in the Romanian Countries, of privileges and censure of the works written during the period following the appearance of printing activity on our lands. Likewise, the study refers to the commencement of codification or of the regulation of the copyright in the Romanian Countries after the Unification of Romanian Principalities of 24 January 1859. The authors carry out an interesting analysis of the Press Law of 13 April 1862 which, even if it was deemed as a „compilation” according to the French law of 1793 on the literary property, showed that „the copyright related to their works shall be a property right”. At the same time, the authors examine certain decisions of the trial courts of those times and present a series of cases published in the scientific reviews existing at the end and beginning of the 20th century. At the end of the study, the authors show us that also the International Congress dedicated to literary and artistic property organized in Bucharest in the year 1906 had an important part in the appearance and substantiation of the intellectual property right in Romania.
