Summary/Abstract: The present article attempts a survey of the most important (and many of them not very well-known by the Romanians) Romanian-Saxon folklorists, who, at the beginning of the 19th century started to collect folk stories, legends, songs under the influence of the previous centuries’ popular writings and especially of Grimm Brothers. Surprised by the exoticism (in their opinion) of the Romanian folklore, these scholars began to collect Romanian folk songs, tales and legends, and it is to Schott Brothers, two Germans without any knowledge of Romanian language whatsoever, that we owe the first collection of Romanian folk stories
