Summary/Abstract: This paper presents some basic results from the empirical survey of the cultural encounters between Bulgarian and Western entrepreneurs and managers who work together on the Bulgarian economic terrain. The theoretical interpretation of the national culture as revealed in business is based on the resources of three theoretical schemes broadly applied in cross-cultural studies in the economic domain: these of G. Hofstede, F. Trompenaars & C. Hampden-Turner, and R. Mьnch. The survey method is in-depth interview. The analysis aims at reveling the substantial dimensions of the Bulgarian economic culture and their bounds, as well as comparising them with the accepted as ideal typical dimensions of the Western economic culture. Subject of discussion are those cultural differences, on which both sides agree upon. As most important features of Bulgarian economic culture are considered diffuseness, femininity, affectivity, particularism, big power distance and negative individualism. The fundamental role of the constitution of trust in the economic relationships is underlined.
