Summary/Abstract: Straipsnyje aptariamas meno laikiškumas hermeneutiniu požiūriu. The paper deals with the temporality of art from the hermeneutical point of view. The work of art and its recipient are completely contemporaneous. Their encounter takes place precisely there and then when they “physically” enter into the relation. This contemporaneity cannot or rather should not be violated by the ever-intensifying historical consciousness. The encounter with work of art is a festive play. The characteristic of the experience of art is that the work always has its own present. The historical origin remains in it only relatively. The most important here is the fact that the work expresses the truth which does not coincide with the intention of the author. Call it a self-exceeding creation of genius or think that every artistic expression is conceptually inexhaustible for a recipient; in any case one has to accept a hermeneutical principle which states that the work of art first of all speaks itself. Hermeneutics seeks not to tear the work of art out of the temporal limits, but to locate it in time, i.e. in the becoming continuum.
