Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to hermeneutic philosophy of H.-G.Gadamer. Philosophical hermeneutics is concerned with problems of knowledge, its conditions and limits. Philosophical hermeneutics of H.-G.Gadamer is based not only on the notion of rational understanding, but also on an experience of art. These two kinds of experience were first treated as existential self-understanding of a subject by Heidegger. According to hermeneutic view of Gadamer, understanding arises not only out of the subject’s endeavour and capacity to understand something, but rather out of the encounter, when one who understands and what is understood get together. This is best seen when we analyse the mode of being of the piece of art, which can be explaned in terms of a play and playing. Gadamer’s hermeneutic approach allows one to interpret anew such aesthetic notions as taste, an experience and knowledge of art.
