Summary/Abstract: The paper concentrates on the destabilisation processes in marriage nowadays which have an impact on the state of the family. The author apposes the mechanical identification of marriage with the family and rejects the thesis about the crisis in the contemporary Bulgarian family. According to her this institution undergoes changes together with society thus accomodating itself to the social changes in it. In the last century these changes are characterized as extremely profound bearing the features of a real revolution. Traced down are the changes themselves, their impact on the structure and the functions of the family, the attitude of public opinion of them, etc. Special attention is paid to the new family models in industrialized society. The pluralism in contemporary forms shows that the term Family is collective and should not be used to mean these forms only. The nuclear marriage family proves to be the most spread family form at present and in the near future it will remain to be the main form of family life. Underlined is also importance of social policies for the strengthening of the family in the conditions of transition to market economy in Bulgarian now.
