Summary/Abstract: This research focuses on residents’ perception of tourism development, identifying the nature of benefits associated with tourism. This study examined the relationship between socio-economic and demographic attributes of local residents and their attitudes towards tourism. The study was conducted in a small rural community (Zwierzyniec, Roztocze region) where tourism is still at its emerging stage. Based on a survey of 244 local residents, tourism impacts were assessed by a 20-item tourism impact attitude scale (TIAS – Lankford, Howard 1994) which measures both belief and affect towards the attributes. The factor analyses resulted in a 2-factor solution – Tourism development and Quality of Life. The study also identified whether there was any significant differences between demographic variables and residents’ attitudes towards tourism by the analysis of variance.
