Summary/Abstract: The equality of women in Islam is a perennial question attracting attention due to the fact that non-Muslims contest numerous Islamic regulations related to women as members of family and society. This issue is among the issues that bear the greatest differences between Muslims and non-Muslims. One of the convincing arguments of equality of women in Islam is the participation of some renowned Muslim women in defense battles. The actions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, have shown that women have an almost equal task to the one of men when it comes to defense. By pointing to social phenomena that put women in the position of a victim of various difficulties faced by the Egyptian society in the transition period, Naguib Mahfouz, who received philosophic and traditional education, had full compassion and understanding for them. The conservative part of theological intelligentsia judged him because of his critic of extremism. Due to an unconventional manner of criticizing the engrained vices of the Arabian society, some of them never stopped judging him.
