Summary/Abstract: The article analyses and interprets several stories with women portraits in the foreground written by Juozas Aputis, the winner of National Prize. From everyday life to philosophical reflection of existance, from romantic love to its hurtful splinters extending for life, from a deep secret to manifested tragedy, from psychologically subtle situation to unsolvable collisions, from the opposition hidden in the nature of a woman and human being in general to the conditions defined by historical time and its crucial decisions. These parametres define the portrayed women lives and fates, characters and situations where they are fatally tested. Realistic picture of life, deep psychological exposure of the personality, relative, parabole and simbolic view show the diversity of the means of stylistic expression. Women in Aputis stories significantly enrich under-standing of human being not only in his creation but in the whole Lithuanian literature as well.
