Summary/Abstract: The present paper is part of the body of literature in the field of the linguistics and places special emphasis on the value analysis of the French modal adverb bien with reference to the predicative relation. Following the line of research established by A. Culioli (1990), R. Martin (1990) and P. Péroz (1992), our paper analyses the adverb bien as it appears in the syntagm il y a bien. Drawing on examples taken from texts belonging to a specific journalistic genre - the newspaper column, we have identified three syntactical structures which relate to three interpretations of the adverb bien in the syntagm il y a bien: a) il y a bien x – type A interpretation (bien as confirmatory adverb); il y a bien p, donc p’ – type B interpretation (bien as consecutive-deductive adverb); il y a bien p, mais p’ – type C interpretation (bien as concessive-deductive adverb). The framework of analysis presented in our paper validates the interpretative pattern used to analyse the adverb bien in the above mentioned structures.
