Summary/Abstract: The article comments the mentality models of the Bulgarians of the 19th century concerning the life in a village or town. They are constructed in an opposition village : town, villager versus townsman The three basic aspects of the opposition has been analyzed: (1) Village as conservative, poor and lacking perspectives : town as a place of change, of positive capital and prosperity; (2) Village as ethnic and national treasure : town as a risky place of loosing national values and patriotism; (3) Village as a world of human intimacy: town as a world of human alienation. The artistic and historical-cultural circumstances defining the imposition of these models have been analyzed. The outside source of the Revival esthetic and ideological reflections . the centers of the Bulgarian Revival abroad: Odessa, Moscow, Bucharest and Constantinople - have been researched. The used materials are of literature nature.
