Summary/Abstract: The article offers a reading of Emilia Dvorianova’s Gardens of the Mother of God through the Bible perspective of the poetic book Song of Songs. This reading „in context” has been motivated by the strong intertextual connections between the two works. it also addresses the longing for eternity and infinity expressed in the passion of Dvorianova’s heroines – the three Marys – to touch the sacred land of Athos where no women can proceed. Furthermore, the analysis presents an attempt of overcoming the human prohibitions, finding the Way, approaching the sacred in the Gardens. it shows how the different levels in the novel of Dvorianova are united by love in order to find answers about comparability of God’s and human’s laws. in the presented article, Dvorianova’s use of Biblical imagery and motifs associated with feminine are discussed; the aim of the analysis is to illustrate the principles on which the novel is built in addition revealing the typical image of the female universe, feminine wholeness of existence, the right for making choices. The article opposes the deconstructivist approach and attempts to present a different view of the postmodern novel.
