Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to make a brief comparative analysis of translations of the chapter An Evening in Uncle Tom‘s Cabin in several of the most common Bulgarian versions of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel. It also traces the modification of the theoretical principles of translation and the development of Bulgarian literary language, as well as the philosophical quests and the ideological influences during the different periods, revealing the reasons for the different messages of the book. Very important part of the chapter is the one that pesents the religious gathering at Tom’s cabin but just a few of the Bulgarian translators render that motif.
