The evolution of the approach to the concept of sustainable development on the international scene

Summary/Abstract: The international community for almost half a century has led a discussion about a new model of development of human civilization. It is about working out a solution that would enable further development of human species, while maintaining the environmental capital, without which the survival of future generations is at stake. This new model is to be embedded on the conception of sustainable development the development which involves the integration of three areas: environmental, social and economic, in order to improve the quality of life on a global scale. On the international scene the conception of sustainable development conceived and developed initiatives undertaken primarily by the UN. This paper presents the genesis of the conception of sustainable development and the evolution of approach to this idea. The article discusses the six stages of the evolution of the approach to the conception of sustainable development on the international scene and the analysis of its key objectives.
