Summary/Abstract: The complexity of processes shaping economy, the liability of circumstances and trends, globalisation, the unpredictability of consumer behaviour, all these factors make managing institutions extremely difficult and complex. More and more frequently, companies gain a competitive advantage throughout logistic devices. Thus, logistics is regarded as a key determinant of success which enables companies to reduce the costs and improve their functioning. Because of it, logistics is being applied for more and more innovative solutions. The author of the article focuses on a niche field of logistics, which is logistics of blood donation in Poland. The work emphasizes the importance of logistics in the Polish blood donation system. The increase in demand for blood, advance and development in medicine and civilizational changes, global disasters, peacekeeping missions and terrorist attacks only intensify the importance of undertaking research in this field.
