Summary/Abstract: In this paper we discuss the problems of the imports in the extra Carpathic area, a territory where many interests encounter (Avar, Slav and Early Byzantine). Some of the finds most associated with the notion of ’imports’ are the moulds for casting jewellery and some costume pieces. The first step in an investigation of the imports is to study the moulds. These represent a special type of find, usually related to defining the commercial relations from an area, or to demonstrate the activities of the craftsmen that implies a higher degree of importance to the local communities. Unfortunately, there is not sufficient space in this paper to present all the archaeological information. A new analysis and publication of the moulds and of the archaeological context where they were found, represents the first step to clarify the real production capacities of the local communities from the north part of the Danube. This is necessary for an examination of what can be defined as an ’import’.
