English structures infiltrated in the Italian business texts

Summary/Abstract: The present research was initiated as a result of the need to enhance the students from the Faculty of Economics with more effective strategies for learning Business Italian. The configuration of the new learning paradigm is in concordance with the rationale of the lexical approach, according to which, proficiency in foreign language learning depends on the learner’s expertise with collocational structures and not isolated words, as well as with the principle of transferring learning strategies from English as a first foreign language to the learning of Italian as a second foreign language. More exactly, learners are encouraged to detect and replace the business English structures infiltrated in the Italian texts with their Italian collocational counterparts. The whole procedure is meant to draw the students’ attention to the fact that the two foreign languages are linguistically related, and that by exploiting and internalising what these languages have in common will help students turn from multilingual into plurilingual European citizens.
