ASPECTOS DE SEMÁNTICA COGNITIVA EN EL ANÁLISIS DE EXPRESIONES IDIOMÁTICAS
Aspects of Cognitive Semantics in the Analysis of Idioms

Summary/Abstract: Although structuralism classified idioms as arbitrary, non-motivated combinations, whose meaning could not be decrypted based on their components, cognitive linguistics shows that there are some transparence factors, some motivation models that operate as semantic universals. The most relevant mechanism is conceptual metaphor. Two significant categories of conceptual metaphors, i.e. orientational metaphors and structural metaphors, are presented in the hereby paper starting from a corpus of 195 Spanish idioms including names of body parts and their Romanian equivalents.
